MACAU, May 11th, 2012 – Earlier last week, Moët Hennessy Diageo Hong Kong (MHD HK), One Central Macau, Shun Tak Holdings, and Ignite Media Group teamed up with actress Vanessa Yeung to unveil the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Private Bar by Porsche Design Studio, a $HK1,480,000 private bar on display in the atrium of One Central Macau from May 3 through May 30. The inaugural launch event, which took place on May 2, 2012, was a smashing success; drawing a crowd of VIPs and socialites from Macau and Hong Kong. The evening’s glitterati included: Cristina Lobo, Filipe Santos, Luis and Mafalda Melo, and former Miss Macau – Guiomar Pedruco. Between sips of Johnnie Walker Blue Label whisky, guests sampled a special menu of canapés created especially for the event – including lobster terrine with shaved fennel and JW Red Label cocktail sauce; “whisked” foie gras with smoked duck breast; and herb and soy whisky-glazed yakitori Wagyu beef and white asparagus. Drew Mills, Brand Ambassador for Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Shaine De Venny, Managing Director of MHD HK, toasted the crowd of dignitaries with drams of the evening’s signature whisky. The successful event is a result of a partnership between Ignite Media Group and MHD HK to develop a strategic branding campaign to create awareness of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Private Bar via media relations, special events, strategic partnerships and other brand-building initiatives. “We were pleased to introduce a mutually beneficial partnership between three prominent brands,” said Mitchell Tan, General Manager of …...

EC-ad gives its market forecast MACAU, May 9, 2012 — Earlier in 2011, the Macau government announced their plans to issue 200 new taxi licenses in order to improve transportation services due to a rising demand for transport efficiency. In spite of its position as an international world-class destination, Macau only has 980 taxis on the roads. With the addition of a new fleet of cabs, tourists and travelers will enjoy more efficient transportation services beginning in June this year. A few taxi drivers in Macau are upset with the government’s decision because this means more competition for many of them. However, for outdoor advertisers with taxi ads, the addition of these new licenses can only mean good things to come. “In the past, there were an inadequate number of vehicles for taxi ads. But now the new licenses for taxis will solve the problem,” said Joe Law, CEO of EC-ad, a leading outdoor advertising company based in Macau. He believes that this will increase the market share for taxi ads, “More taxis mean that the outdoor advertising business can continue to expand. Overall, it’s good for business” And while a higher number of taxis in the city may actually mean slightly more congestion at rush hour, Law says that this can be an advantage for advertisers “When the flow of vehicles moves slower, people pay more attention to the advertising around them.” “We are glad to see the coverage of taxi ads is growing. Taxi ads are one of the most effective methods for outdoor advertising. Every day, taxis catch the eyes of ordinary people walking on the street; highly-visible and seemingly ubiquitous. With lengthy exposure, exhibited 24 hours a day, and with affordable rates, taxi advertising helps retailers and services hit the target effectively.

12 April 2012 Macau’s Increasing Demand for Quality Retail Workers Means a Rise in Salaries, reports macauHR MACAU, April 12 2012 — Alongside the incredible pace at which the gaming and tourism industry in Macau has been developing, the retail sector is also quickly maturing, having benefitted much from the city’s exponential growth. Since 2009, Macau’s sales revenue has increased 40 per cent year on year — especially in regards to luxury fashion, high-end jewellery and watch brands. The growth has also led to an increasing demand for well-trained and knowledgeable retail workers, as well as a respective competitive increase in retail salaries. With the opening of megamalls and luxury shopping centres such as Sands Cotai Central, which opened earlier this week, it is evident that more and more international brand names are seeking to penetrate the local market. The rising numbers of luxury retail outlets also translates to an increase in the hiring of local workers, as the demand for quality retail services is projected to continue to increase over the next few months. The hiring experts at macauHR project that salary ranges will also be raised higher, as companies will be seeking to retain the loyalty of their talents. For example, fashion label brands may even adjust their wage levels to catch up with the higher salary ranges provided by jewellery brands, in hopes that this will result in a lower turnover rate. And while it is relatively easy for brands to recruit new junior staff, a shortage of experienced managerial staff in Macau and the high turnover rate represent a larger issue for retail firms. According to Cherry Chu, Recruitment Manager at macauHR, internal grooming and the development of management training programmes are of utmost importance if brands are seeking to retain talent. “Macau needs to develop …...

“Macau needs to develop a new HR system,” says Chu. “Companies here should work on developing ones that are similar to the system in Hong Kong, which offer regular promotions and raises.”

Compared with Hong Kong, Macau employees are also more demanding. According to recent research data, most retail workers expect promotions and salary raises earlier on in their career. Chu offers the following tips for those who aspire to rise to managerial positions in the local retail market: “Management candidates must have excellent English speaking skills, good communication skills, as well as a stable career track record.” She says. “These are essential qualities for moving up to managerial levels in the retail sector.”

Those visiting the Qoos homepage will experience a clearer, more intuitive site that offers easy access to breaking news, hot forum topics and travel tips shared by users. With new integrated features including more efficient search functions, a homepage keywords panel and larger images – users will find it much easier to browse the site’s content. The improved search functions will also display search results from both Qoos’ and Google’s pages. In addition, ad spaces and sizes have also been changed in order to adhere to theInteractive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) standards. Most websites in the world now go by the same sizing standards for advertising, so Qoos’ adoption of IAB standards will reduce the amount of time and headache for clients, if they have pre-existing IAB standard ads. Mark Hammons, Managing Director of Qoos’ parent company – Ignite Media Group, is excited about the website’s successful relaunch. “The incorporation of these new features will make our channels all the more accessible and fun to cruise,” he says. “The adoption of IAB ad standards helps us provide better services to our advertisers.” Qoos is number one site visited by global internet users in Macau, according to Alexa Traffic Rank, with over 1.33 million unique visitors per month (according to Google Analytics). The website’s forums are very popular with the younger demographic, with over 130,000 members logging on to discuss the latest news, fashion trends, restaurant hotspots and more.
8 March 2012 Expert Findings: macauHR Releases Results from Fresh Grad Survey MACAU, March 8 2012 — Earlier this month, macauHR attended the annual career fairs at the University of Macau (UMAC) and Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) to become better acquainted with the latest generation of job-seekers. To get a better grasp of the current job market, macauHR conducted an onsite survey, collecting the answers of both fresh graduates and employers. Some astounding results were revealed, as 65 per cent of fresh grads stated that they expect starting salaries ranging from MOP $11K to 15K. Alternatively, 57 per cent of the employers surveyed expect to offer MOP $8K to 11K as a starting point for candidates without experience. However, after taking Macau’s shortage in manpower into consideration, about 40 per cent of companies believe that the most attractive starting salaries should still range from MOP $11K to 15K. Findings also showed that 67 per cent of new graduates are looking for jobs directly related to their majors; while 64 per cent are looking for jobs related to their personal interests. As for when it comes to deciding on which job offer to take up on, 41 per cent stated that room for promotion is deemed a major consideration compared to an attractive salary (19 per cent) or employee benefits (28 per cent). Corporations also indicated they prefer to emphasize effective training programs (43 per cent) and corporate culture (29 per cent) in their promotion campaigns. Most students evidently expect to get a job opportunity through the career fair, carrying with them a full set of CV’s and cover letters. Some 64 per cent of students said they hope to be hired within the first month after graduation.
